Innovations in infrared technology

Fraunhofer IAF would like to thank everyone who contributed to this exciting exchange of knowledge and experience and invites you to the 45th Infrared Colloquium on May 16 – 17, 2023—Save the Date!

The »44th Freiburg Infrared Colloquium« from March 19 – 20, 2019 at Fraunhofer IAF was a complete success! With a comprehensive program of scientific talks and a record number of more than 100 participants, the workshop offered experts from science and industry a platform to discuss the latest findings for the development of high-performance infrared sensors, detectors and lasers for security, aerospace and industrial processes.

The participants enjoyed a number of high-profile talks and subsequently engaged in lively discussions. The conference brought together international stakeholders from different economic and industrial sectors to strengthen cooperation in the fields of infrared technology and advance the development of applications.

Infrared technologies for space, climate and security

In over 40 contributions, the program of the two-day workshop covered a broad spectrum of topics: infrared technologies for space, climate and security as well as high-resolution thermal imaging cameras and real-time monitoring by spectroscopy were discussed. Guest speakers from renowned institutions in the USA, Great Britain, Austria, Switzerland, France and Germany introduced the individual topics.

Infrared detectors are an indispensable tool for Earth observation from space as well as for investigating processes in our solar system and beyond. However, in addition to traditional applications such as safety, security and space travel, infrared detectors and lasers are increasingly opening up new applications such as medical diagnostics, gas analysis and spectroscopy, as well as materials processing and climate research.

Various current developments in the field of photodetectors and semiconductor lasers were also presented by Fraunhofer IAF researchers. At the IR Colloquium 2019, numerous contributions from more than 100 international researchers, engineers and industry representatives were able to shed light on and discuss in detail the diverse fields of application of infrared technology.

For more detailed information of the technologies presented, please take a look at the programm of the IR Colloquium 2019.

Meeting place for the international infrared community

For the 44th time since its foundation in 1971, the Freiburg Infrared Colloquium brought together renowned international participants from a wide range of economic and scientific sectors. The colloquium offers a unique forum for discussing topics of current relevance for the realization of semiconductor emitters and detectors as well as their use in a wide variety of industries.
